Fine Art self-portraits from genius beginnings

Fine Art Self-portraits from genius beginnings; Marie-Denise Villers, Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Giorgione, Sandro Botticelli, Peter de Hooch, Johannes Vermeer, Leonardo da Vinci. Latest Sale highlights numerous portraits that, for one or more reasons, have been suggested to be presumed, probable or possible self-portraits of artists for whom there is a shortage of definitive proof to the contrary. Self portraits are known to capture the haunting gaze of the subject that may display a distant, intensely focused overtone that is almost trance-like.   (Images: Marie-Denise Villers, Jan van Eyck, Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Giorgione, Sandro Botticelli, Peter de Hooch, Johannes Vermeer, Leonardo da Vinci)

Latest Sale reports from the luxury Business Directory with a focus on Fine Art. The 19th Century European Art sale at Christie’s comprises 93 lots from several schools, including a strong selection of Victorian works.  Highlights include James Jacques Joseph Tissot’s In the Conservatory (Rivals), property from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which has not been on the market in over three decades. Another Victorian sale enjoyed by Christie’s is Edmund Blair Leighton’s A Call to Arms (To Arms!), depicting the artist’s best-known subject, an anecdotal scene of England’s past. Additional highlights include a superb mix of Orientalist, Barbizon, and Academic paintings by artists such as Corot, Boldini, Sorolla, Ernst and Béraud.
