The Peacock Centre in North Hobart was greatly revitalised by Xsquared Architects after devastating arson assaults in 2016 and 2021 as reported by the Architecture Business Directory team. The architectural solution prioritised best practices in mental health care design in collaboration with the Department of Health. The renovation was directed by the WELL Building Standard, which guaranteed a quiet, light-filled space.
Ruardean, the former building, underwent heritage restoration to accompany a new two-story construction that integrated modern features with the building’s historic setting. Today, the Peacock Centre serves as a leader in mental health services in the southern Tasmanian region, providing cutting edge, recovery-focused care in a kind and community-integrated environment.
