Introduced this year, Amazon Sidewalk is a shared network that enables some Amazon devices to increase their connectivity range outside of conventional Wi-Fi networks. It connects devices such as Echo speakers and Ring cameras using low-bandwidth, long-range wireless technologies capable of building a network mesh.
Thanks to this feature, devices can communicate and exchange modest amounts of data even when they are not within the user’s home Wi-Fi’s coverage area. Although Amazon Sidewalk intends to enhance user experiences and boost device connectivity, privacy and security issues have been raised. If a user decides they do not want to use the shared network, Amazon Sidewalk can be disabled.
